I&#8217;m going to share how I go about finding my market.<br \/>\nBut first you need to know&#8230;<\/p>\n<h2>How to Fail on the Internet<\/h2>\n<p>Every business speaks to a different audience. <strong>You must run traffic on the platforms where YOUR market is \u201changing out.\u201d<\/strong><br \/>\nIf you craft the perfect marketing message but then fail to put it in front of the right audience, your entire campaign will fail.<br \/>\nFor example&#8230;<br \/>\nTrying to sell\u00a0Apple accessories using Google display\u00a0ads on a blog about PCs would end in disaster.<br \/>\nYou know&#8230; the proverbial, &#8220;You can&#8217;t sell ice to an Eskimo.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h2>But the strategy remains the same&#8230;<\/h2>\n<p>Conceptual traffic strategies such as \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.digitalmarketer.com\/blog\/pixel-process-facebook\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Pixel Process<\/a>\u201d or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.digitalmarketer.com\/blog\/funnel-facebook-retargeting\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Boomerang Retargeting<\/a> are applicable no matter what market you\u2019re in.<br \/>\nThose strategies are applicable across all traffic sources.<br \/>\nTo learn more about these universal laws of traffic, read these articles&#8230;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.digitalmarketer.com\/blog\/pixel-process-facebook\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The \u201cPixel Process\u201d: How Digital Marketer Gets 81% More Leads and 38% More Sales From Paid Traffic<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.digitalmarketer.com\/blog\/funnel-facebook-retargeting\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">How to Plug a Leaky Sales Funnel with Facebook Retargeting<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>But traffic is a commodity. A click is a click.<br \/>\nWe view traffic like a water faucet. When we want some, we turn it on.<br \/>\nWhen we want some, we go to the \u201cTraffic Store\u201d and buy it.<\/p>\n<h2>But which &#8220;Traffic Store&#8221; is right for you?<\/h2>\n<p>You go to buy traffic when you have an offer that you feel is <strong>appealing to a certain market<\/strong>.<br \/>\nYou buy traffic where that market is hanging out so that YOU can get in front of them.<br \/>\nOne of the biggest questions we get from members in DigitalMarketer Lab is, \u201c<em>Where should I start running traffic?<\/em>\u201d<br \/>\nGreat question! I had the same question when I started running traffic.<br \/>\nFor most\u00a0situations, I recommend starting with Facebook because&#8230;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The ad platform is easy to use. (&lt;&lt; This is important, especially if you&#8217;re a traffic newbie.)<\/li>\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.digitalmarketer.com\/blog\/facebook-advertising-targeting-options-social\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">targeting options<\/a> are insane. With the number of targeting options at your disposal on Facebook \u2013\u00a0you can find your target market easily.<\/li>\n<li>Facebook has 1.3 billion users; there is a lot of room for scale on the platform.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>But Facebook isn&#8217;t\u00a0for everyone. Facebook has started cracking down and banning advertisers. Markets such as dating or weight loss just can\u2019t advertise on Facebook.<br \/>\nSo now I answer this question with a question&#8230;<\/p>\n<h2>\u201cWhere is your market?\u201d<\/h2>\n<p>If you\u2019re looking to buy traffic, you want to do so from a source that will help you reach your market.<br \/>\nUnfortunately, there isn\u2019t an easy answer to this. I haven\u2019t found a tool that tells you which platform to use to reach a specific market (if you have one, let us know \ud83d\ude42 ).<br \/>\nIt\u00a0takes <strong>research<\/strong>. It takes time.<br \/>\nIt takes thought.<br \/>\nBut, the research couldn\u2019t be more important.<br \/>\nAgain, if you craft the perfect marketing message but then fail to put it in front of the right audience, your campaign will fail.<br \/>\nSo how do you find your market?<br \/>\nFirst, you need to think about WHO\u00a0your market is &#8230;<\/p>\n<h2>What\u2019s their age, gender, income?<\/h2>\n<p>Websites like Twitter, Pinterest, YouTube, etc. have aggregated millions of users &#8212; but each platform has slightly different demographics.<br \/>\nThis broad demographic information will help you decide on a platform.<br \/>\nMore specific information such as&#8230;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What are their hobbies?<\/li>\n<li>What TV\u00a0shows do they watch?<\/li>\n<li>What authority figures do they follow?<\/li>\n<li>What books do they read?.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&#8230; can be used to target your audience once you\u2019ve decided on a platform.<br \/>\nFor example, here\u2019s how to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.digitalmarketer.com\/blog\/facebook-advertising-targeting-options-social\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">find your market on Facebook<\/a>.<br \/>\nWe like to start with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alexa.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Alexa<\/a>. This tool\u00a0will give you demographic data on websites around the web.<br \/>\nLet\u2019s start with\u00a0Pinterest:<br \/>\n<img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-55528\" src=\"https:\/\/www.digitalmarketer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/traffic-weapon-1.jpg\" alt=\"traffic-weapon-1\" width=\"580\" height=\"313\" \/><br \/>\nNot surprisingly, Pinterest is WAY above average in terms of visits from females.<br \/>\nPinterest is a wonderful platform to run traffic in the craft, clothing, make up, and anything e-commerce or female focused.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-55529\" src=\"https:\/\/www.digitalmarketer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/traffic-weapon-2.jpg\" alt=\"traffic-weapon-2\" width=\"580\" height=\"374\" \/><br \/>\nCheck out <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewinternet.org\/2015\/01\/09\/demographics-of-key-social-networking-platforms-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">this research data<\/a> from PewResearchCenter on Facebook&#8230;<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-55530\" src=\"https:\/\/www.digitalmarketer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/traffic-weapon-3.jpg\" alt=\"traffic-weapon-3\" width=\"580\" height=\"786\" \/><br \/>\n\u201cFully 71% of online adults use Facebook, a proportion unchanged from August 2013. Usage among seniors continues to increase. Some 56% of internet users ages 65 and older now use Facebook, up from 45% who did so in late 2013 and 35% who did so in late 2012. Women are also particularly likely to use Facebook compared with men, a trend that continues from prior years.\u201d<br \/>\n(Facebook is specifically great for reaching older demographics that have SPENDING power).<br \/>\nYouTube, like Facebook, have a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thinkwithgoogle.com\/products\/youtube-demographics.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">large and diverse user base<\/a> with over one billion people visiting YouTube every month.<br \/>\nLet&#8217;s take a look at LinkedIn&#8230;<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-55531\" src=\"https:\/\/www.digitalmarketer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/traffic-weapon-4.jpg\" alt=\"traffic-weapon-4\" width=\"580\" height=\"846\" \/><br \/>\n\u201c[LinkedIn] continues to be particularly popular among college graduates, those in higher-income households, and the employed.&#8221; Although, it is notable that the usage by those who are not employed rose from 12% in 2013 to 21% in 2014.<br \/>\n(LinkedIn is especially powerful for reaching the professional market or running B2B traffic.)<br \/>\nYou get the gist! Research must be done to ensure your running traffic on the correct platform.
